Food Supplies Shrinking?

The New York Sun today reports that wholesaler Costco, in California, and retailers in New England are rationing the distribution of staple food items, rice, flour and cooking oil. The stores apparently limited the distribution to customers to keep supplies and keep all customers alittle happy as opposed to having none of the items in stock.

Should we be concerned? Is this country headed toward a massive food shortage? Why are the politicians we hear from so regularly on the news NOT addressing the food stocks and the prospect of a food shortage?
