Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s Presidential Campaign struck Senator Barack Obama’s campaign this week with an ad featuring offended and insulted Pennsylvania voters. Oops. One of the featured voters, as it turns out, registered to vote in New Jersey.
Alas, someone should have caught this gaffe. The error takes the sting out of the ad. Details, unimportant in the beginning of this marathon, are magnified from scrutiny by voters, media and the other candidate this late in the race.
Senator Clinton’s campaign needs to explain. The more time she spends explaining gaffes, the less time she spends convincing voters that she can be relied upon when the chips are down. Or, perhaps she tells with each gaffe how incapable she is of hiring people to look after the details that are a necessary part of running a country.
